A variety of Jewish groups are offering educational and recreational online resources. Below is a sampling of those. The Reporter will publish additional listings as they become available. 

The Forward will hold the virtual program “How Today’s Chefs are Reimagining Yiddish Cooking” on Wednesday, October 11, at 1 pm. Featured in the discussion will be Forverts Editor Rukhl Schaechter; Jeremy Umansky, owner and chef of Larder: A Curated Delicatessen and Bakery; Rav Jonathan Posner; Jeffrey Yoskowitz; and Joe Baur. Uri L’Tzedek will hold several virtual events: “The Measure of Sedom: Capitalism, Socialism, and Barbarism” with Rabbi Will Friedman on Wednesday, October 25, at 3 pm, the cost to attend is $18 (available here); “The Four Archetypes of Damages (Arba’ah Avot Nezikin): Modern Perspectives of Old Traditions” with Rabbi Professor Avishalom Westreich on Wednesday, November 1, at 1 pm, the fee to attend is $18 (available here); and “Neither Pro-Choice Nor Pro-Life: Abortion in Jewish Law” with Rabbi Sarah Mulhern on Monday, December 4, at noon, the cost to attend is $18 (available here).

The Hadassah-Brandeis Institute will hold the hybrid event “HBI Fall Seminar – Scholar in Residence with Allegra Goodman” on Monday, November 13, at noon. Goodman will talk about her collection of stories, “The Family Rubinstein.” For more information or to register, click here.

The Forward will hold the hybrid event “How Albert Einstein Inspired Mandy Patinkin to Rescue Refugees” on Wednesday, October 18, at 6 pm. Roundtable at the 92nd Street Y will hold a virtual program with Adam Gopnik discussing the Marx Brothers on Thursday, November 9, from 2:30-3:30 pm. The cost to attend is $44. Gopnik will “explore the Marx Brothers’ revolutionary absurdism – a lecture in celebration of 92NY’s 150th anniversary.” For more information or to register, click here.

The Sandra Seltzer Silberman HBI Conversations Series of the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute will hold “Jewish Girls and Women in Forced Labor in the Holocaust,” featuring Janine Holc and Joanna Michlic on Wednesday, October 18, at 12:30 pm. Holc, author of “The Weavers of Trautenau: Female Jewish Forced Labor in the Holocaust” (2023), and Michlic, HBI research associate and editor, “Jewish Families in Europe, 1939-Present: History, Representation, and Memory” (2017), will speak about the impact of World War II and the Holocaust on Jewish families and communities, especially the lives of women and girls. The Forward will hold the hybrid event “Jewish Challenges, Jewish Solutions” with Rabbi David Wolpe moderating a panel that will include Jodi Rudoren, Bret Stephens and more on Thursday, November 2, at 6:30 pm. The event will focus on David Hazony’s book “Jewish Priorities: Sixty-Five Proposals for the Future of Our People.” For more information or to register, click here.

The Union for Reform Judaism will hold “Raising Kids to Enjoy a Healthy Relationship with Food” on Tuesday, October 17, from 1-2 pm. Since many Jewish holidays have a focus on food, Diana Rice, R.D., L.D., will offer tools that can be used to implement positive feeding dynamics. She will also discuss body sizes and explore anti-fat bias and its impact. For more information or to register, click here.

Melon will offer the four-part course “An Ethical Checkup: Jewish Views on Modern Medical Issues” on Wednesdays, November 29-December 20, from 1-2:30 pm. There is a sliding scale cost to attend. Melton educator Rabbi Michele Faudem will explore “how Jewish law views privacy, how we determine who gets what medical treatment when resources are scarce, autopsies, and gene manipulation before birth.” For more information or to register, click here.

The Jewish Women’s Archive’s will hold the virtual course “Jewish Women in the Medieval World” on Thursdays, November 2-30, at noon. Four scholars will offer glimpses into the lives of medieval Jewish women from Northern Europe to Iberia to the Middle East. For more information or to register, click here.

The Institute for Jewish Spirituality will hold the virtual program “An Evening with IJS president and CEO, Rabbi Josh Feigelson in conversation with Rabbi Benay Lappe, founder and president of SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva” on Tuesday, October 17,from 8-9 pm. YIVO’s Yiddish Club will hold three events this fall: Shane Baker on Sunday, October 15, at 2 pm (available here); musician Lorin Sklamberg on Sunday, November 19, at 2 pm (available here); and actress and singer Dylan Seders Hoffman on Sunday, December 10, at 2 pm (available here).

The American Jewish University will hold “Jewish Photography of the Holocaust” on Thursday, November 2, from 3-4 pm. The cost to attend is $21. The class will explore the photography of Henryk Ross, chronicling Lódz Ghetto life; Faye Schulman’s World War II Jewish partisan resistance images; and Auschwitz Sonderkommandos’ work near gas chambers.
