A variety of Jewish groups are offering educational and recreational online resources. Below is a sampling of those. The Reporter will publish additional listings as they become available. 

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy will hold the virtual program “Straight Out of Brooklyn, a talk about Jewish entertainers on Wednesday, June 22, from 7-8:15 pm. The program will look at entertainers who came from the neighborhoods of Coney Island, Prospect Park, Flatbush, Brooklyn Heights, Bay Ridge and Bed-Stuy, and the portrayal of Brooklyn in films and television. The Museum of Jewish Heritage will hold the virtual walking tour “Jewish Split” on Sunday, June 19, from 11 am-noon. The cost to attend is $36. The livestream guided tour will explore Split, Croatia, which has existed since Roman times. For more information or to register, visit their sign-up page.

Evolve Web Conversation will hold a conversation with Rabbi Toba Spitzer, who will discuss her book “God Is Here: Reimagining the Divine” with Rabbi Nancy Fuchs Kreimer and Rabbi Jacob Staub on Thursday, June 23, at 1 pm. Her book speaks about how to access ancient, rabbinic and modern metaphors to help readers experience holiness in their daily lives. For more information or to register, see their event info. The Braid will offer its fourth Salon Theater show of 2022 “Uncovered: Who Are You Beneath the Surface” features Jewish voices and stories in-person and on Zoom. It will be live on Zoom on Monday, June 20, at 10 pm, and Sunday, June 26, at 2 pm. The cost to attend is $18. For more information or to register, visit this link.

The Biblical Archaeology Society will hold the virtual “BAS Scholars Series with Jodi Magness” on Thursday, September 15, from 8-9 pm. Her topic will be “The Archaeology of Qumran 75 Years after the Discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.” For more information or to register, see this page.

Aleph, the Alliance for Jewish Revival, will hold “Honoring our Loves, Honoring our Lives” on Tuesday, June 21, at 7:30 pm. The cost to attend is $18. The program will explore fears of living, dying and grieving. It will include a guided meditation and allows attendees to reflect on their current relationship with death. The League for Yiddish will hold “Yiddish Today” with Mendy Cahan on Sunday, June 19, from 11 am-noon. Cahan will speak about his work in movies, TV shows and theater. Aleph, the Alliance for Jewish Revival, will hold the virtual program “Honoring the Life and Legacy of Reb Zalman!” on Sunday, July 3, at 8 pm. The late Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomiz has been called the “grandfather, visionary and inspiration of the Jewish Renewal movement.” He will be honored with stories, songs and teachings. The Jewish Theological Seminary will hold the virtual “Stories and Storytelling: Summer 2022 Learning Series” on Mondays beginning June 20 from 1-2:30 pm. Topics will include “(Far From) All About Eve,””Telling Difficult Stories: Philip Roth’s Operation Shylock” and “Passion and Violence: A Contemporary Philosophical Reading of the Sacrifice of Isaac.” For more information and to register, see this link.

Maven will hold the virtual program “Holocaust Denial in Today’s Courtrooms and What It Means for Justice and Memory,” a book launch of “Come to This Court and Cry: This is How the Holocaust Ends” by Linda Kinstler, on Tuesday, August 23, from 3-4:15 pm. Maven will hold several virtual events: a tour of Krakow’s Galicia Jewish Museum’s exhibition “Traces of Memory: A Contemporary Look at the Jewish Past in Poland” on Wednesday, July 20, from 1-2 pm, $21 to attend (more info here); and “Tour Global Jewish Life: Kolkata” on Tuesday, August 9, from 10-11 pm, $21 to attend (register here).

The Women’s Institute of the Orthodox Union will hold the Alit Virtual Summer Beit Midrash Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 26 and 28, and August 2 and 4. Classes will feature topics such as halachah, Tanach, Jewish history and tikkun hamiddot. The cost is $18 for one course, $36 for two courses and $45 for three or more courses. The Museum at Eldridge Street will hold the virtual class “Make Yourself at Home! Home, Exile and Return in the Hebrew Bible” on Tuesdays, July 12, 19 and 26, and August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 11 am-noon. The cost is $11 per class. The class looks at the Bible through the themes of home, exile and return. The texts will be provided; the course does not require previous Bible study or the ability to read Hebrew.
