A variety of Jewish groups are offering educational and recreational online resources. Below is a sampling of those. The Reporter will publish additional listings as they become available. 

The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning will hold several virtual classes: “What Makes Jewish Art Jewish?” on Tuesday, February 21, from 7-8:30 pm or Wednesday, February 22, from 11 am-12:30 pm (available here); “The Music and Teachings of Our Exodus,” a four-part course on Thursday, March 9-30, from 1-2:30 pm (available here); “Pewish Studies: National Surveys, Jewish Identity, and Community Responses,” a two-session class on Mondays, March 14 and 21, from 1-2:15 pm (available here); and “Binding Isaac: Blind Obedience vs. Thoughtful Choice,” a two-session class on Wednesdays, March 22 and 29, from 1-2:15 pm (available here). Jewish Women’s Archive will hold the JWA Film Club. Viewers will watch on their own (suggestions for online viewing of films are given). There will then be four evenings of conversation with experts on each film and its subject matter. The films and dates are: Thursday, January 26, at 8 pm, “Yentl”; Thursday, February 2, at 8 pm “Little White Lie”; Thursday, February 9, at 8 pm “Dirty Dancing”; and Thursday, February 16, at 8 pm, “Kissing Jessica Stein.” For more information or to register, click here. 

The BAS Scholars Series 2023 will feature four virtual lectures, including “Holy City Hotspot: Exploring Jerusalem’s Acropolis” by Andrew Lawler on Sunday, March 5 from 3-4 pm; and “A Wise Woman and a Bearded Man: Ten Seasons of Excavation at Tel Abel Beth Maacah” by Nava Panitz-Cohen, on Sunday, June 4, from 3-4 pm. The Jewish Theological Seminary will hold the hybrid program “The John Leopold and Martha Dellheim Senior Recital 2023” on Thursday, January 26, at 7 pm. Graduating Cantorial School seniors Josh Ehrlich, Marilyn Selby Okoshi and Noah Rachels will perform music in Hebrew, Ladino, and Yiddish, as well as hazzanut and Israeli traditional and pop songs. The Biblical Archaeology Society will hold its winter symposium “Gods, Religion, and Sacred Texts in Ancient Israel” with Theodore J. Lewis, Erin Darby, Mary Joan Leith and Christopher Rollston, on Saturday, February 11, from 1-5:15 pm. Topics will include “Israelite Religion: When and How Did It Emerge?,” “Unearthing the Religions of Ancient Israel,” and “Persian Surprise: A Key Period for Biblical Studies” There is a cost to attend. The Forward Book Club will review the novel “Cyclorama” by Adam Langer on Wednesday, January 25. The novel follows a group of student actors through their high school production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” in 1982 and meets up with them again during 2016. The Museum of Jewish Heritage will hold several virtual programs, including “A Sanctuary in the Storm: Carl Lutz and the Rescue of Budapest’s Jews” on Tuesday January 17, from 2-3 pm; “Stories Survive: Annelies and Marianne Bernstein” on Tuesday January 24, from 2-3 pm; and “Virtual Walking Tour: Exploring Connections Between Jewish Berlin and Jewish Odessa” on from 11 am-noon. Uri L’Tzedek will hold the virtual discussion “Climate Change Virtual Panel with Rabbi Jennie Rosenn and Mirele B. Goldsmith” on Thursday, January19, at 3 pm. There is an $18 fee to attend. To register for the event, click here.

The Shalom Center will host three webinars honoring the teaching and legacies of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, which will take place on Wednesdays, January 18-February 1, from 7:30-9 pm. Siegal Lifelong Learning will hold a variety of online lectures this winter, including “Jewish Child Partisans in the Holocaust” on Tuesday January 24, from noon-1:30 pm; “Black Power, Jewish Politics: a book talk” on Sunday, January 29 from 7-8:30 pm; “Animal Affinities: Word and Images in Medieval Jewish Books” on Sunday, February 12, from 2-3:30 pm; “Growing Up Jewish in India” on Friday, March 3, from noon-1:30 pm; and “American Jews, Abortion and the First Amendment” on Thursday, March 9, from 7-8:30 pm. Maven will hold the virtual program “A Taste of AJU’s Global Jewish Life Tours: Caesarea” on Thursday, February 16, from 3-4 pm. For more information, click here.

The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning will hold the virtual class “The Perfect Pitch: Music’s Role in Jewish History” on Thursdays, February 9-March 2, from 1-2:30 pm. There is a sliding scale cost to attend. Participants will learn about song and music throughout different historical periods, in the synagogue, Jewish homes and other Jewish communal settings. Chabad.org/Chabad of Greenwich will hold the virtual course “Soul Therapy” on four Tuesdays, January 24-February 14. The sessions are 45 minutes. The instructors are Rabbi Menachem Feldman and Dr. John S. Tamerin, M.D. There is a suggested donation of $40. For more information or to register, click here.

The Yiddish Book Center will hold a variety of programs, including “Yiddish: A Global Culture,” the Center’s new core exhibit, on Thursday, January 26, at 7 pm; “Belonging and Betrayal: How Jews Made the Art World Modern,” with author Charles Dellheim, on Thursday, February 2, at 7 pm; “The Sassoons: The Great Global Merchants and the Making of an Empire,” with Joseph Sassoon, on Thursday, February 16, at 7 pm; “The Global Reach of the Yiddish Theater – The Vilna Troupe, God of Vengeance, and Yiddish Performance the World Over,” on Thursday, March 2, at 7 pm; and “Have I Got a Story for You,” with editor Ezra Glinter, on Thursday, March 16, at 7 pm.
