Memorial service at Holocaust Memorial Monument to be held on Sept. 24

Area rabbis will lead a memorial service on Sunday, September 24, at 10:30 am, at the Holocaust Memorial Monument in the Temple Israel Cemetery on Conklin Avenue in Conklin.

Jewish Federation International Film fest: “Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy” on Sept. 10

The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton’s 2017 Jewish International Film Fest will begin on Sunday, September 10, with a dinner at 5 pm, followed by the film “Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy” at 7 pm at the Jewish Community Center, 500 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton’s 2017 Jewish International Film Fest will feature the film “Fanny’s Journey” on Sunday, September 17, at 7 pm, at the Jewish Community Center, 500 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal.

An older friend, who grew up during the Great Depression, more than once told me stories about the radical slant of many of the laborers she knew. These factory workers, a good percentage of whom were first generation immigrants, supported the labor union movement and socialistic ideals.
