Federation Super Sunday and Annual Meeting to be held on Oct. 22

The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton will hold a combined Super Sunday and Annual Meeting event on the morning of Sunday, October 22.

Federation Film Fest to open with dinner on Sept. 10

The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton Film Fest will open with a dinner before the showing of the first film, “Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy,” on Sunday September 10, at 5 pm, at the Jewish Community Center, 500 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal.

TI to hold installation event for Rabbi Brown

Temple Israel will hold an installation event for Rabbi Geoffrey Brown on Sunday, August 27, at 10 am, at Temple Israel.


BU Hillel welcomes senior Jewish educator

Hillel at Binghamton announced that Rabbi Marley Weiner will be its new senior Jewish educator. Weiner, who graduated this year from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, will provide educational and outreach services to the campus Jewish community.

Book review: Echoes of the past

The events of World War II continue to affect both those who lived through those times and their descendants. Writers continue to mine the subject for what seems like an unending number of novels. What is amazing is that rather than being repetitious, many of these works are absorbing and moving.


Unexpected reaction

My friends know I’m not generally a romantic. Yet, when I was young, most of my favorite songs from Broadway musicals were love songs, usually because the music was so beautiful.
